Scammers are at their old tricks again attempting to lure you in with more false emails from your favourite social network.  This latest attempt is sending you an email which looks like it is from Facebook informing you that you have a new message however it has been lost.  Strange I hear you say but I’m sure your curiosity just can’t wait to click the link.  Think again..Stop.

The full message will say something like: ‘Facebook sent you a notification’ ‘you have a lost message click the link to recover it’ included is an FAQ to add to its authenticity.  The email is very convincing and fully styled like a Facebook page.  The link will take you to an unrepeatable site and will most likely capture your details in the process.

With 750 million user active on the platform you can see why theses scammer are trying their luck.  However there are a few or the usually signed that give it away, firstly the spelling mistake:  In their haste they have misspelt received.  But this doesn’t stop people believing the email as most scan them quickly the mistakes are missed.

One thing to remember is to think twice before clicking the links.  It is very easy to create a ‘from’ email address or make a html email look like the real thing. So always be on your guard.  Make sure you log into you Facebook account and see what messages are in your inbox there most likely these will be the genuine article.

The apply names Spam King, a bloke whose real name is Sanford Wallace has this week been charged on around 11 criminal federal counts in the USA. These charges relate to more than 26 million emails sent unsolicited through the Facebook social network platform. On 7th August 2011 Mr Wallace put his hands in the air and owned up to his scam. More than half a million Facebook users fell into his trap in which the FBI are claiming he mad serious amounts of money doing. Although pleading not guilty the alleged could face over 40 years behind bars for his actions.

The Spam King has been accused of directly login into the Facebook servers and sending messages which appeared to come you from your friends. These contain links to affiliated site which pay by the click. Users clicking the links also had their personal information captured and its feared this has been sold on. Also the hacker could take the list of friends and continue to spam these people.

His activities continued throughout 2008 and 2009 however this hasn’t been an isolated case. It is believed that Mr Wallace has been the head of many a spamming organisation all he way since the mid 1990’s and as well as being such a popular platform as Facebook it is idea for guys like this to continue their criminal activity. There is only one approach: to be ultra vigilant, double check and think twice before clicking links from anyone, even your friends on Facebook.

Reasons to use the new Facebook Email

As Facebook taken on a new approach to email and messages some people are hailing it as the gmail killer however here at Facebook login we look at why it will convince you make the switch.

There are reports coming in that Facebook have sent out beta invitations for a special number of users to trial a Facebook web based email service.  The system has been code names Titan and will allow a full email client when a user accesses their Facebook login.  Being refereed to as the Google Mail Killer, Facebook have a big mountain to climb to claim this victory.

The area of contacts and friends list has been a constant battle field for the two rivals with Google and Facebook pulling punch after punch.  At the beginning of November 2010 Google changed its API service which allowed easier import and export of Google Contacts to third part apps, only if the 3rd part did the same.  As Facebook has a major issue with exporting friends lists this new set up by Google effectively shut the import of GMail contacts into Facebook.  However a work around was put together allowing CSV files to be used and so put Google's back up.

These issue between the two companies started back in 2008 when Facebook put an end to the export of its friends lists and import into Gmail contacts so this recent change has been Google's way of re opening the transfer of contacts.  Google's one priority has been for Facebook to allow access to friends lists via Gmail.

So now Facebook is potentially opening up @Facebook.com email addresses to users who login.  This could be some incorporation of facebook chat or a step development of the internal platform message system.  However we will have to hold our breath until next week when an official announcement will be made.
