Today Facebook announces the soon to be released functionality of downloading your information and data from the site.  Users will be able to take the data in a compressed file such as a .zip and import it into other software or external platforms.  This ground braking move for Facebook will be available shortly to all users.

All members will need to do is login to Facebook account settings and select the 'download your information' feature.  From there they will be able to downlad everything from the profile such as basic information, a list of friends, events, wall posts and messages.

This functionality will not delete your account but simply allow you to transfer or backup the data and will start rolling out today.
