Scammers are at their old tricks again attempting to lure you in with more false emails from your favourite social network. This latest attempt is sending you an email which looks like it is from Facebook informing you that you have a new message however it has been lost. Strange I hear you say but I’m sure your curiosity just can’t wait to click the link. Think again..Stop.
The full message will say something like: ‘Facebook sent you a notification’ ‘you have a lost message click the link to recover it’ included is an FAQ to add to its authenticity. The email is very convincing and fully styled like a Facebook page. The link will take you to an unrepeatable site and will most likely capture your details in the process.
With 750 million user active on the platform you can see why theses scammer are trying their luck. However there are a few or the usually signed that give it away, firstly the spelling mistake: In their haste they have misspelt received. But this doesn’t stop people believing the email as most scan them quickly the mistakes are missed.
One thing to remember is to think twice before clicking the links. It is very easy to create a ‘from’ email address or make a html email look like the real thing. So always be on your guard. Make sure you log into you Facebook account and see what messages are in your inbox there most likely these will be the genuine article.
